⇒ PwC, IBM

went to final stage of PwC's corporate shenanigans today (final stage before the offer). Okay, the gloating over the whole 'impressed' and 'whoah, I got through' thing has been buzz-killed. Seems pretty much everyone at the group interview stage got through, and that was really just sort a test to see if you're a total f#ck up or not. Gdamn PwC! You sprung a test on me! And an interview. A grilling, long ass interview where a smug prick made ooh-ing and ahh-ing noises. You know what? I'm done with PwC. Thanks, but no thanks. I think I've made my point and proven myself. I don't need to go any further with this. For the record, C*'s a fox!.

On the other hand, we have IBM, whom I wasn't originally interested in progressing further with--now I'm getting more interested. We'll see what happens.

I think I like the idea of working for a large, menacing corporate f#cker like PwC in the CBD, rockin' a suit everyday, boardroom meetings, corporate culture and associated social functions, etc., but not the work itself. Ooh, accounting (no offense, accountants). I like everything about the job/surrounding the job, except the job itself (far as I can tell). That's probably why I'm so drawn to IBM now.

Still yet to hear from Aristocrat. They better act quick--I'm going off the market pretty soon...

⇒ adventure, excitement

what a week it's been!
PwC called back...I'm through to stage 4, which is really a formality at this point, I mean, how badly could I f#ck it up from here? In one-on-one interviews, in that suit, I'm like gold. I got a two hour meet on Monday morning...shiiiiiiiiiiiii...

Meanwhile the IBM meet was interesting...a real pretty girl worked there but I don't remember her name (damn it all to hell! It's no use!) Anyhoo, I think I nailed the face-to-face interview (as usual). A mix of communication, cloth and humor won the day--even though I arrived late. Nice offices, kinda lame workstations...They'll be in contact Monday...

Jumped through a few more hoops for PwC (104 question 'personality test'--wtf?!?!) and about 50 q's for Aristocrat...qualitative sh!t...whatever...too many companies outsource their recruitment and I'm hip to their game now...I know the answers they want...

At this point, I know it seems like I'm jerking work around, but really, what would you do if PwC and IBM were calling you, telling you they were impressed, even from group-interview perspective? (Really? Oh my goodness, did I do that?)

⇒ turmoil

i missed the call back from PwC at 2030-ish!

I called back the number, not realizing who it was and was almost too casual! Anyhoo, I guess I have to seriously reconsider this whole PwC thing because someone upstairs likes me!

⇒ sunny, but cold

today, chronologically:
6-something: woke up, shower, breakfast (cereal, juice)
7-something: get dressed, get to PwC HQ
8-something: begin 'Insight & Conquest' session
12-ish: finish 'Insight & Conquest' session

2-ish: home with Pad Thai
3-ish: gymmed hard. 20' run, 20' bike, no swim (possibly too cold, risk to health).
run til it REALLY hurt (not sick but health not 100%). totalled 300 KCALs
Did 150+ reps of weights (min. 30 kg), which is alot for me
27 visits left

5-ish: home and finish off Pad Thai.

about the PwC thing-to all ppl in accounting/finance/commerce to applied: HA! In yo face! IN YO FACE! I've just proven what sham degrees you all got, cause I made it this far without having done maths or commerce for up to 9 years! Either that or I'm f#cken brilliant. Win-win for me!

But seriously, I think I'll keep my day job. I'm mostly happy where I am (socials suck, tho), but the work is ok, the pace is relaxing and the money's about the same-ish. It's more that I want to do it than anything else.

For the record: I'm applying to all these big corporate entities and such for one main reason: to prove that I'm not a loser (like you all thought I was just a few weeks ago--don't lie, I know you did!). If made an offer, I get to thumb my nose at them and reject their ass. Unless they offer me alot of moolah.

⇒ conundrum

wow, you know that point in your life where the outcome of the decision decides how morally compromising you're going to be over the next part of your life? I'm there.
Enormous, money-throwing, international corporate entity, or small, dignified workplace? I don't know...

I'm scared and excited at the same time.

⇒ a hard week at work...

terrible, terrible week at work. Mostly because of impossible deadlines I'm supposed to work to. If you're gonna throw me work at the last minute, then I'm gonna give it to you late. Thems the breaks. I mean, I'm not slacking off at work; if anything, I'm working harder than ever, but everything I do takes a certain amount of time, and if I don't have that time then:
1. my work suffers
2. i won't be happy. you won't be happy. nobody will be happy.

And another thing: stop distracting me with your incessant banter, I thought this was a professional workplace, not a mess hall. And stop heaping work on me when I've already got something else to do. It's impossible to complete things on time when you keep throwing me more and more work, especially at the last minute.

enough work rant for today...

i don't wanna be hard on microsh!t, but they do bring it on themselves...have they ever had an original idea? jeebus! this is disgusting...OR maybe they were the first to come up with the concept of copying everybody else! An original thought by Microsh!t! Huzzah!

Starcraft? Check. Papercraft? Check. Can I get a hell yeah!

cool Samus vs. Master Chief. Animation missteps once or twice, the cuts are sometimes too quick and the choreography is way over the top, but it's damn enjoyable and did put a smile on my face. I digitally applaud you, Monty Oum.

⇒ the first

not full work just yet, not break, not uni, let's call it 'limbo'

At least til the first 3 months are past.

first true day of career defining work. Was nerve-racking as hell. Had upset stomach all day. Seems like a nice place to work. I'm running on fear that at any moment they're going to 'let me go' because of my gross ineptitude in marketing assisting and average graphic design skills.

Started the day at 6:50AM (!!!) and caught bus at 7:30AM to Town Hall. From there I caught the express to Granville and walked back a bit. Was crazy hot but we have air-con work is climate controlled. Met everyone (?) - Jacqueline (marketing/hr), Teresa (marketing/client liason), Sheria (sp?) (secretary?) , Edward (accounts), Tim (it/tech-support), John (da boss).

I have my own desk, workstation (Mac), office chair, printer, scanner, whiteboard, draws, etc. Could be ok!

Anyhoo, i'll keep holding on...as long as i can

⇒ you've come a long way baby!

(days since break started: w16d5-->days on break: 115, days at work: 0)
days since November 10, 2006: 117

Well, this is it! It seems that I'm finally cashing in on that promise I made long ago. I've been offered a job as a Marketing Assistant with Graphic Design skills. Schweet! I happily accepted the role and now I await my start.

On the downside, I realize I'm not going to have time for anything else this semester/year. If I do continue with uni, I'm going to be going from work to uni non-stop pretty much all year and using all my free time for projects n sh!t. No more fun. No more friends. No slacking off. C'est la vie.

⇒ first official degree-related interview!

(break: w15d7-->days on break: 112)

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I had my first official degree-related interview today! I was so nervous and scared. Last nite I barely got any sleep because of nerves (I was informed that there would be a test), a mozzie (lil bastard got me 3 times!) and an upset stomach (still upset now).

Anyhoo, I think the interview went well (but you never can tell). It lasted for 1.5 hours which surprised me, because I thought I'd be in and out of there in 30' (15' test, 15' interview), but the test lasted about 35' and interview for ~55'. I don't know if the interviewer was being polite or genuinely impressed but my test result and previous projects seemed to get a good reaction.

Could this be the opportunity for me?

Goin to golf later today, maybe that will settle my stomach.

Stomach ok now. Went golfin and turned in an overall average day. Terrible day with the irons (tried 6 and 9) but pretty good day with the wood (i don't know it's rating). I hit 150s pretty often but I'm starting to doubt whether I've ever made 200 meters. Also the range looks like 2/3 or 1/2 of the distance it claims (i.e. 100m looks more like 60m). Still, if it sez 150m and my ball plonks down next to the sign, I guess I made 150 then. I shanked/sliced the ball alot though.

I think technical knowledge of the game will improve my swing:

⇒ learning and earning

(break: w15d5-->days on break: 110)

gymmed. swimmed. didn't keep track of it really. I'm worried that I may have reached the satisfaction barrier wherein I'm overall too happy about my physical appearance to continue exercising. shite. Anyhoo, I'll try to push on for the sake of fitness. I don't feel the drive/fire to lift more or run faster, do an extra set...you get the idea.

Applied a couple of jobs today. Unlikely that I'll get them but hey, you never never know, if you never never apply.
