⇒ 50 worst gadgets of the decade

50 worst gadgets of the decade. Good read and I agree with all the (highly justified) Sony bashing. They had the arrogance to cram proprietary formats down consumers' throats for years so they got spanked by the iPod.

I'm very underwhelmed by this first iteration, but I think with future versions this could be a very good product. Not necessary, but still very good.

Apple's just released the Safari 4 beta. Apparently it's fast, stable, and clean; 3 things I'm looking for in a browser. Now if they'd just work in keyboard shortcuts for quick tab-switching!

⇒ new os, challenges met

after much blood, sweat and (mostly) tears, I rose to the hardware challenge:
1. open Apple laptop
2. remove internal hard drive
3. install new internal hard drive
4. reseal laptop
5. install new RAM
6. install new OS
7. restore all settings and preferences

It was a long night! Installing the OS, waiting, hoping...praying. In the end, everything went right from the get-go.
Vuze | Coda | Handbrake 0.9.2 | DivX | Xvid | Perian | El iPodo | MozoDojo | MacOSaiX | TextWrangler | VLC 0.8.6i | Diablo II patch

Today, ran pretty well. I'm beginning to figure out my running speed (optimal balance of air intake vs. expenditure). It's roughly 10.5km/h. Made 2.0km in 12' again! Before that, I did 1.6km in 9'33" which is better, but not great. Went on to run 2.9km in 20' and use about 200KCALs.

No gym girl + grandparents visiting + sushi at home = short gym sess. Did bench 50 x 16 just for the heck of it.

⇒ apple iPhone apeshit

iPhone 3G launched recently and everyone has gone apesh!t for it. Seriously, wtf?!? It's a phone! Ppl are going all nutty for it and yet do they realize they're gettin jacked out of $1000 for rustic tech in a slick design? My 3 yr old phone does 90% of what the iPhone does (net, music, 2mp camera, apps) and even one-ups the iPhone's camera (can record video).

All these a$$holes wanting it right a away. I can't wait for you to get burned when the next iteration comes out. Moreover, stop going so nutty, I'm trying to get some paperwork done and can't get to the front of the queue with the rabid a$$holes rampant.

Same goes for WYD. If you're going to call it World Youth Day, let's keep it to a day then.

⇒ Apple Pandemonium!

Apple's flagship Sydney store launched today. At 5pm the doors opened and rabid Apple-ites went crazy and made alot of noise. Alot of 'whooping', 'woo-hoo', 'yeah!', etc...I was there...lined up for almost an hour to get in but I got me a t-shirt indicating that I was amongst the first 2500 yups/marketed-to to enter the new store.
The line wrapped itself around pretty much the entire block on which the Apple store is situated. In length terms, I guess that's about 3.5 blocks, which is unheard of in Sydney.

It's amazing how nutty people got during the event. It's not like Apple actually gave anything substantial away. The t-shirts came in a slick white Apple box, which led some to falsely believe an iProduct was inside (sadly not).

On the upside, staff were friendly (and in a very 'high-five' kind of mood), some free nudies (health drinks) were passed along and courtesy umbrellas, for when the rain started (you don't get to keep them). Anyhoo, here are some camera phone pics. Can't be bothered to upload the rest...maybe later.

That Apple logo is enormous! It looks like it weighs as much as a small car. I guess it's supposed to be intimidating and make competitors feel small and vulnerable. Good job.
