wot i been up to lately:
1. jogging one or two laps of wentworth park
2. laser tag
3. moving back home =S

three franchises which went somewhere i didn't like:
1. star wars
2. metal gear solid
3. street fighter
i don't give a crap about any of these anymore. I gave them a chance when they did something new but overall, they took my generosity for granted. They lost me at Episode 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Street Fighter IV respectively (and coincidentally the 4th major releases).

⇒ The 10 Commandments of Capcom Development

(from the mouth of Jun Takeuchi):

  1. Keep staff turnover below 10 percent per annum.

  2. Maintain the ability (and cash reserves) to increase personnel by 10 percent each year.

  3. Keeping the firs two points in mind, keep development cost fluctuation within 10%.

  4. Investment in new IP needs ot be kept within 20% of total development budget. (Takeuchi feels this is unique to Capcom, which has tried hard with “Dead Rising,” “Lost Planet,” and “Zack and Wiki.”)

  5. The structure and organization of the company needs the flexibility to change in response to growth, goals and objectives must constantly be reviewed.

  6. Goals and objectives must be adaptable to external forces. (Takeuchi cited as a positive example, Square-Enix moving the “Dragon Quest” series to the Nintendo DS.)

  7. Objectives and aims must always be set from the top down. (Takeuchi: “When a problem occurs in a development company it almost always comes from the developers… having the developers work from the bottom up to reform how they do things things, management must also maintain flexibility.”)

  8. Reform must always be undertaken from the bottom up.

  9. There should be no taboo areas when it comes to reform. Reform must be undertaken at all costs. (Takeuchi said this was learned from Toyota. Problems within the developers and development team would be most costly, so management and workers need to learn to work and change together.)

  10. Don’t set unachievable targets

  11. Bonus from Takeuchi - One word trumps all these rules: “fun.” Users better enjoy what they’re playing. “The most important thing to remember out games is they must be fun and the uer must enjoy them. If you can’t do that then I think you lose the reason for your company to exist. This is the never-changing spirit of Capcom.”

⇒ starred items

just a few things from my g-reader which may or may not find more use/practicality in at-a-glance list form:

  • audio over powerline here

  • Art Lebedev Folderix Flash drives here

  • PS3 wireless keypad here. Will someone please pho'shop up a gonad resembling keypad onto the 'banana' controller?

  • Eyepet. It's like Augmented reality, I suppose

  • Discussion about less obvious perks of piracy here

  • Big-ass MS Surface Coffee Table(?) computer unboxed

  • Lacklustre launch? Hire the buzz. Orange did. See here

  • Sony, Toshiba lazy with LCD production here

  • CG breakthroughs here. Still a bit spotty. I think it's the eyes and mouth--they're not quite right. Furthermore, I think the animated-ness of the character is a bit excessive.

  • Robotic Arm

  • Yet another useless Wii accessoryhere

  • Mashade

  • Criterion Collection uses PS3 as benchmark. Story here

  • Crappy iPhone camera attachement here

  • Solar tie. Yup.

  • Gamers are better surgeons. But are surgeons better gamers?

One last thing: finally figured out what makes Cillian Murphy and that guy (Thomas Schiff aka Ofc. Rachel Dawes in TDK) so creepy: the skin on their face. It looks like the skin is one size too small for their faces, and is thus too tight. Add to that, the clarity of their skin--nary a blemish nor a wrinkle in sight, and you've got a creepy villain in a Nolan movie.

⇒ mens 200m sprint

Usain Bolt FTW!

Bolt ran the whole distance this time and left the field 10m behind as he crossed the finish in a new world record time of 19.30s!

notes on the race:

  • Bolt is a fun kind of guy--you can't help get swept up in his tomfoolery (posing) and boogeying-down after winning.

  • Walter Dix reminds me of Lil' Jon

  • Shane Crawford is f#cking huge!. How does someone that bulky run that fast?

  • spare a thought for Spearmon, who was disqualied for taking one half-step out of his lane

Also watched the 110m hurdles semis. Dayron Robles (sp?) is a pimp. He's the favourite and all, but how many athletes can run like him while passing for H&R Block's finest? Add to that the enormous gold cross which threatens to impale him through the throat should he fall...

criticism of Wikipedia: http://www.gamesradar.com/f/the-wtf-world-of-wikipedia/a-2008062510326553058
as much as I enjoy a wikipedia read, I do agree with the criticism. Wiki is pretty f#cked up here and there.

on a personal note:
Must come to terms with lack of excitement in personal life. Static, gormless; lack of international travel, prestige and hot women.
I really f#cked up after high school. I was so full of promise. I had it all, but now I’m a shrinking testicle. No balls at all.
I must turn this around. I am the master of the temple. Everyday must be full of little victories, determination and selfishness.
‘Death by comparison’—I’m going to be the guy that everyone compares themselves to. I will be the exception.
Failing that, I will have nothing to live for. This is my creed. NB: professional rivalry still on the cards.

Wimbledon '08 roundup
Nadal’s much more humble in defeat than Federer.
This loss really hurt Federer. He took the loss pretty personally (press conference), but was he upset at the press or himself?
I can’t stop thinking about the blistering final! It was gddmn spectacular! I also felt involvement:
Two of the very best, possibly in the history of their sport (Federer: all-time best? Nadal: best-clay-courter ever?) throwing everything
they’ve got at each other. Two of my favorites. One so smooth and dominating, he casually wins upto 95% of his season.
The other, so unyielding, fearless and intimidating that he regularly disposes of the former, and has an incredulous record on clay at
the ripe old age of 22.
The 3rd consecutive Wimbledon final between them. The dream final. The winner will create history. So much at stake.

Old, but hilarious news from the Age. Basically Mats Wilander criticizes Federer's lack of chutzpah.

It is mostly poor uneducated people that use AOL (Internet on training wheels) and the Zionist are all about using them to fight their wars for Israel.

War is how the wealthy rid the world of stupid violent people so they don’t rise up.

If those poor, uneducated, mostly believers could only do math, they would realize that George Bush adds up to 666 in Hebrew.
